Photo and Video Uploading Series: Viddler
Registration requires only an email address and users can choose between free and paid accounts. With a free account, users have access to all of the core features of Viddler:
Simple player: This is where videos are shown. Users with free accounts must use the “simple player.” The simple player allows users to change the color scheme of the player. Logos can also be inserted. Users can also embed their videos into their own website—displaying it as part of their webpage.
In-line commenting and tagging: If you create or upload a video, you can insert comments into the video that will display when watched. Tags can also be inserted to label items in the video. Teachers and students (if given permission) can use this feature to clarify concepts or to add additional information to their videos.
Direct or Prerecorded video: With a webcam, users can record their videos directly to Viddler. Pre-recorded videos (including HD content) can be added in fourteen different file types.
Content rights: Viddler does not claim rights to any of its content. This means that the creator of the video owns it and can delete it at any time.
Privacy: The video creator can set the privacy level of the video. They can choose whether everyone can view the video or just certain people. This feature can be used by teachers to allow only their students rights to view their content.
In order to upload a video on Viddler, follow these steps:
- Scroll over Videos on the top of the main page.
- From the dropdown menu, select either Batch Upload or Simple Upload. The batch upload option allows multiple videos to be uploaded at a time. The simple upload option only allows one video to be uploaded at a time.
- Click Browse and select the file or files to be uploaded.
If you’re looking for a way to post the occasional video for students, Viddler is an option to try out.
